Zar : Ekaya’s Homage to The Past and The Future

Art finds ways to speak to you. It makes you feel things on a deeper level. When creating art for somebody else, the artist behind it gives it their all to make their art speak. And fashion has always been a marker of this exchange. Traditional Indian handlooms are blessed with artists like these, and their heritage artistry. Ekaya honors this history with their exquisite handloom textiles and their love for preserving the Banarasi weaves.

With a century long legacy behind them, Ekaya have always been about preserving the art of traditional Banarasi textiles and bringing it to the forefront of Indian luxury fashion. Capturing the attention of not just the subcontinent, but also reaching for the global stage. By revisioning the handloom textile landscape, it has created a distinct identity for the rare craftmanship that champions authenticity and is naturally luxurious. The label has only gone from strength to strength since its inception almost a decade ago.

Building on their illustrious silk lehengas & zari clad sarees, Ekaya have been consistent with their approach. Innovating on the age-old banarasi brocade, the brand has once again duly delivered.

Zar by Ekaya: A collection that marries history with contemporary

Zar – Ekaya’s Fall Winter ’23 collection is a mesmerizing ode to timelessness & modernity. Presenting a juncture of legacies, ‘Zar’ epitomizes what a healthy confluence of cultures can create – art that is inimitable.

The story behind this ethereal collection is just as enchanting. An east meets west special, paisley motifs, the Persian origin teardrop pattern has been an intrinsic part of Kashmiri textiles for centuries. The Persian motif found its way into royalty’s favorite Jamawar and has since been in the lap of luxury. Banarasi textiles, awed by the lustrous Jamawar eventually incorporated these motifs into saris that showcased astute artisanal capabilities of Indian artisans.

A fresh take on the paisley motif, it finds itself immortalized in the lustrous Banarasi brocade. Immerse yourself in history & revel in the significance of art going through a newer phase. Shedding the autumnal shades of brown & grey, Ekaya opts for a bold color palette that shines through. Bringing a sense of contemporary to vintage classics like the silk saree & the silk lehenga.

Ekaya Green Silk Handwoven Saree

Ekaya calls this one a museum-worthy masterpiece and honestly, how do we disagree? The deep green saree is the perfect foundation for the recurrent floral paisley print. What adds to the enchantment is the delightful Meenakari work traversing throughout the border, making for a piece replete with details. A masterpiece, truly.

Purple Paisley Silk Handwoven Saree

A bold color that does all the talking for you, and an exciting broad border that takes care of all the attention. With a paisley print that is flowing with ease, a mock-border with miniature flowers creates an interesting illusion on the bare garnet silk saree.

Ekaya Handwoven Silk 'Master' Lehenga

This master Jamawar lehenga is poetry in motion. Intricately woven almond shaped design – the Kairi, akin to paisley motifs, graces this Deep Blue Silk Lehenga. Interestingly, each ‘Kairi’ is an homage to the skilled hands that worked on creating this gem.

Yellow Tissue Handwoven Saree

The Yellow Silk Sari features a striking red border with prominent paisley motifs. Crafted with 50% Zari and Meena, pure silk makes for the whole. Classic floral patterns are seamlessly integrated, and the pallu boasts a captivating color-blocking effect with Meena-filled mehraab structures. Oh, so pretty!

Complementing the striking color on this handwoven silk saree is the floral motif that runs through the breadth of the drapes. The pallu brings with itself block printed paisley motifs that stand out in bright colors.

Once we are done gushing about the tone, we can finally talk about this beautiful banarasi lehenga. The blush pink number is adorned with golden accents, shimmering on the conspicuous paisley motifs. We’re still not done gushing, but yes.
