What’s Scorching Hot On The AIFW Runway

Day 1:

Road to Chanderi: Kick-started with a great tribute to the traditional chanderi fabric, the AIFW Spring Summer’17 witnessed rich creams and golds, detailed embroidery, and neat pleats. This show had sixteen designers coming together and re-interpreting the age-old fabric with their twist and update thus making it wearable and versatile on a day-to-day basis! The designs seen on the ramp included minimalistic to bold and bright prints, shimmery skirts and pants to jumpsuits, glamorous dresses to even saris that one can wear for multiple events. To add on, we had the royal and absolutely stunning Aditi Rao Hydari walking the ramp for one of the labels - Raw Mango. Could this get any better?

Samant Chauhan: Whimsical whites, flared silhouettes and vintage prints; Samant Chauhan’s collection was a sweet melody on the ramp including feminine silhouettes, floral prints, and embroidery.

Rina Dhaka: From see-through and delicate sheer to applique, Rina Dhaka’s collection on the ramp was an amalgamation of pretty prints and chirpy hues! Keeping up with trends like off-the-shoulder, incorporating floral motifs to updating the traditional saris; the runway collection was completely power pact and drool-worthy! 

Krishna Mehta

A unique combination of handwoven textiles & vibrant hues in a chic collection for the modern woman. Brownie points for pairing hand loom jackets with innovative sari draping techniques. This one was a treat to the eyes!

Day 2:

Rajesh Pratap Singh: Following the theme modern and monochrome, Rajesh Pratap Singh’s collection at AIFW SS’17 for both men and women was worth all your attention. Taking and terming androgyny to the next level, Singh’s pieces included layering and checked shirts, all oozing with great style!

Pratima Pandey: Easy-breezy pieces, calming colours like creams and beige and dainty flower embroidery; these elements summed up Pratima Pandey’s dreamy collection. Pieces that can be paired with a pair of comfy palazzos and skirts set the runway with a feel-good and refreshing factor.

Anavila: Anavila’s collection of linen saris in soothing neutral colours was dreamy and oh-so-classy as always but what stood out this time around were innovative patchwork petticoats with pockets and frayed hems. With her collection each time, never forget to give enough attention to even how each model is presented on the ramp. From makeup to super hairdos, everything about the complete look is so raw yet admirable!

Payal Pratap: Ace designer and one with a great fashion aesthetic - Payal Pratap's latest collection titled Twist in my Sobriety lit up and dazzled the runway at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2017. Each garment seen on the ramp had a mix of great colours along with heavy use of floral work and the silhouettes that slowly moved from jackets, dresses, jumpsuits, dhotis et cetera. All of these that were absolutely clutter-free and chic!

Abraham and Thakore: Homegrown and close to the heart, Abraham and Thakore’s collection included the down to earth khadi fabrics. With an emphasis on the fabric of the future, this collection saw hints of prints in golden and silver as standouts. All the outfits lay somewhere between the traditional and the modern with saris draped to have thigh high slits.

Day 3:

Heumn: You know what’s sexy? A collection that includes sheer panelled shirts, women flaunting pastel and checked pant suits along with bold prints. To add one, the #nowtrending pieces like bomber jackets, boot cuts, and white sneakers were seen slaying the runway and how!

Anupamaa Dayal: Think of a colour and you’d see it on the ramp next! The collection also transformed the ramp from boho to beachwear, including fun prints and elements like pom-poms, chokers et cetera. All in all, this particular show was one fashionable vacation that you has only inspired you!

Gauri and Nainika: You know how glamour sweeps you off your feet? That’s exactly our feeling after watching Gauri and Nainika’s spring summer 2017 collection. An extravagant line-up of floor-grazing gowns, exaggerated silhouettes and the overall drama presented on the ramp was nothing less than breathtaking. The colour palette included corals, mints, mustards and blacks that were teamed with undeniable elements like ruffles and frills. 

Malini Ramani: Soothing earthy tones, hand-dyed techniques, and embroideries are all factors that make this collection commendable, fluid and effortless. Taking a cue from the designer’s previous collection and personal style, factors like dip dyes and fun exotic prints depict freshness and make a statement.

Rabani & Rakha 

Occasion wear that arrives with effortless glamour in breathtaking gowns, lighter lehengas & the modern kurta set. Each silhouette was bedazzled with impeccable embellishment to shine bright for an evening soirée.

Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna: The collection included silhouettes that are sleek and completely on point. With unique and sexy cuts, metallic patches teamed with light hues, sober pastels and neutral; every piece spotted on the runway defined class and urban sophistication. Clothes tailor-made beautifully to fit the body seamless was one element that stood out in the overall show. Don’t believe us? Here’s the proof!

Day 4:

FDCI & ELLE introduce The First Cut Designers for 2016:

With an array of young talent in the fashion fraternity, we’re obliged to see something creative every year. Six young labels this year have created magic on the ramp with super styles and enthusiasm.

The Meraki Project uses organic cotton, ikat, linen and silks that are hand woven all over India. Asa is a label that aims at experimenting with textiles, dyes, and design, comprising of fuss-free and straightforward silhouettes. Lola offers clean and uncluttered designs which are a refreshing take on contemporary luxury. Vitasta is an accessory brand with a motto of day-to-day luxury that spells style and sophistication at the same time. Lastly, Dvibhumi, an independent label functions on a simple goal to find a contemporary identity for jewellery rooted to the deep Asian heritage. 

Bhanuni by Jyoti: Traditional prints meets modern silhouettes for any kind of occasion - brunch, dinner dates & tropical holidays. If you're one who can't get enough of prints, this collection won't fail to disappoint.

AM.IT by Amit Aggarwal: This is what we would call love at first sight. With a burst of pop colours on the ramp, Amit Aggarwal’s dreamy collection ‘icloud’ made its way into the hearts of the audience. His collection included using elements like glitter and sequins waste, pom-poms,  recycled accessories on pop colours, thus making the SS’17 collection a huge success.

Masaba: Inspired by the city of New York Masaba Gupta’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection included the diverse culture of the city. A line of enlightened Indian wear like bell-bottoms, oversized and easy shirts et cetera did treat the audience visually and also prepared them for their buy next time around. The runway also witnessed a swing of vibrant colours like reds, pinks, and electric blues! Also, to add to the glamour factor, Athiya Shetty walked the ramp as a show stopper!

Pankaj & Nidhi

Set amidst a backdrop of heavenly clouds, the models strutted in shimmer & shine. The modern diva got a futuristic spin with surprise elements in embellishment & glitter on their lips. A starry starry night, indeed. 

Day 5:

Felix Bendish | Mine of Design by Ambar Pariddi Sahai | Whatever by Abhishek Kankaria & Shrruti Tapuria:

Felix Bendish’s collection titled ‘Forbidden fruit’ showcased an edgy collection of accessories in handcrafted nickel-free metal and fabric embroideries, each of which standing out to make a statement.

Taking the road back to the ancient times and the treasured heritage, Ambar Pariddi Sahai showcased jewels with ghungroos, jali work, and vintage coins along with gemstones engraved with mythological symbols.

The Kolkata-based jewellery brand presented a perfect medley of classic and contemporary style. The intricate designs with semi-precious stones and silver only exuded elegance. The newest and the coolest addition being the shoulder accessory this season that's not only stunning but also extremely stylish. Here's Ileana D'cruz in a radiant red dress, stealing hearts and proving it on the ramp as a showstopper too!

Dhruv Vaish | Pawan Sachdeva | Sahil Aneja: If you’re a lover of menswear and obsess over the same, then here’s the collection just for you! Three of these uber talented designers presented pieces that involved bold prints and geometric patterns with hints of strong military silhouettes; a neat summer line featuring statement hues like marble white, slate, and raven in organic textiles and pure cotton; unique styles of layering with the updated printed suits and shirts with elongated and lengthy blazers.

JJ Valaya | Alpana Neeraj: Last but definitely not the least! Following the India Modern Festive theme, JJ Valaya along with Alpana and Neeraj recreated and redefined traditional apparels for us. Paying some serious tribute to our heritage of Indian fabrics, every piece seen on the ramp did have a deep connection to our roots. Through the use of stand-out motifs and intricately embroidered surfaces on fabrics like regal velvets, raw silks et cetera each piece was carefully crafted with immense love and passion. The grande finale was indeed all sorts of regal!
