Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week 2020 saw the best take on modernity. Swapnil Shinde, who is all about unconventional contemporary glamour, served us with trends that we were not ready enough for. Sunny Leone was the perfect show-stopper (we aren't surprised, she can pull-off any risque outfits), in a black T-shirt dress that was paired with an oversized sequin jacket. What almost took our breath away was, the quirky take on a Disney princess and THOSE puffy knee-length boots.
While our ideal definition of modern silhouettes may have included skinny fit jeans and body-hugging structures, Swapnil managed to convince us that baggy is totally cool. And also, more-is-more. Gone are the days where stereotypical prints used to make our day; we now look forward to futuristic geometric patterns and overload of sequins. Throw in some right amount of cut-out fringes and velvets too, without looking pretentious at all.
Let's take a look ahead at all the trends we spotted at Swapnil Shinde's show at Lakme Fashion Week 2020. And since it is the fashion week, we remind you again, basic is out, extra is always in.
Modern take on Cinderella.
These outfits made sure we had a major #throwbackthursday moment to our childhood, but, with a twist. The dresses had our favourite Disney princess, Cinderella, eyeing our go-to items that get us through our day, i.e., McDonald's and Jack Daniels. Quirky much?
OTT sequin web.
We aren't over sequins just yet. What better way to garner attention than to overdo with bling by taking help of micro beads? The web-like formation and the cold-shoulder are here to stay, the Swapnil way.
Statement Sleeves FTW.
The show had a lot of flamboyance, sure. But, the real MVP was the scene-stealing dramatic sleeves. Our fixation for them have been pretty evident in the past, so that makes these puff and bishop sleeves a real catch for us.
Structured out-of-proportion bodice.
We can totally see Lady Gaga wearing these outfits, whose style we have been 'shipping for years. Not only is the bodice blown out of proportion but also are the animated silhouettes.
Cut-out fringe jackets.
Remember the time our torn denim used to look like these jackets? These cut-out fringes takes us back in time when we experimented with DIY's with our garments. Also, sequins again. What's not to like?
Velvet pleasure.
Venture into velvets in these flirty tops that we are ready-to-wear. Enough celebrities have inspired us to wear corsets over shirts, making this turquoise blue corset extremely covetable.
Metallics to own.
We are aware of the metallic trend that has been making a buzz for quite a while. The real spin to it though, is the crushed-gold-with-black duality that has us swooning all over it. Boring LBDs, step away, we have a new trend in the house.
Plunging bandeau bra-tops.
If you dare to bare, we have one of the best trends of the year for you, bandeau bra-tops. We have seen celebs wear it under formal pant-sets, and the more embellished they are, the better. Worry not, we have our blazers to our rescue, if you're skeptical about wearing them as they are.
Puffy knee-length boots.
We decided to save the best one for last. These knee-length poofy boots in a galore of colours and textures have our heart. These are perfect example of the show's point of drama-at-its-best.
