Talking All Things Stylish With Shereen Sikka

At New York Fashion Week

1. What are some trends you saw on the runway at New York Fashion Week? With New York Fashion Week happening in different parts of the city, the experience was all sorts of exciting and while traveling, I saw a multitude of styles. As for the ramp, when I rewind, I can remember an extensive range of colours, catchy prints and the absolute sexiness displayed with every outfit. What also didn’t go unnoticed were a lot of chic outer layering like slips mainly in satin fabrics, layering in general with a fashionable twist all teamed with chokers. The cool kid that definitely stood out throughout had to be the Gucci Horseshoe! 2. Are these trends similar to what you have seen at fashion weeks in India?  The trend that's working most in India is still the anti-fit trend. We also see a lot of people experimenting with sheer that adds to the sexiness in ensembles. In terms of colours, a lot of classic hues like blacks, white and several muted tones are doing the trick on the runway. 3.Street style you saw in New York. What's trending? An array of trends like satin slips or popularly known as slip dresses are the in-thing this season. People have been sporting them with just about anything and making a statement. It is worn over t-shirts dresses, high neck or turtle neck dresses or plain slip dresses teamed with bomber jackets or the classic denim jackets. Owing to the current atleisure trend, the New Yorkers have been wearing shoes and sneakers also making it an essential style staple. 4. What did you wear to the shows (and why did you choose that)? While dressing up, the one thing that’s always on my mind is comfort. I always make it a point to pick pieces that are fuss-free and ones that do not require a lot of attention. Following the same ideology for the New York Fashion Week, I chose a Lola by Suman olive green playsuit owing to its lustrous satin feel. Keeping my petite body type in mind, I prefer wearing pieces that elongate my legs. On another day, I wore a pair of comfy trousers, a high-neck t-shirt teamed with a Hemant and Nandita bomber jacket and Adidas sneakers. On the day of the Tommy Hilfiger show, we had the team style us in a relaxed atleisure looks. Post the show, I wore the Gigi Hadid x Tommy Collection for an exciting global influencer photo shoot.

Fashion Week in India

1. You were most recently at Amazon Fashion Week - tell us about your experience. Any shows you particularly loved? Experiences at the Fashion Weeks are always exciting. You get to see and meet so many creative minds, experience the honest effort put in by designers et cetera. My personal and absolute favourite shows were Hemant and Nandita owing to their metallic colour play. A range of super cool hand-embroidered t-shirt dresses that were presented by Heumn. Another favourite collection was one by Pankaj and Nidhi. From attractive colours to an interesting line of prints and fabrics, every piece was a ten on ten. 2. Street style you saw while at Lakme and/or Amazon Fashion Week? Like I said, the fashion weeks are always worth looking forward to. The energy, meeting people and watching every designer’s brainchild come to life is more than just exciting. But one thing that’s definitely exciting is how people dress up for the fashion week. Inspiring and vibrant, street style has become so essential at the fashion week. This season, the highlight being fashion enthusiasts dressed in ethnic saris with a twist. Neat Indian drapes teamed with high necks and sneakers were the in-thing this season which inspired us to even do a photo-shoot. That justifies our love for the trend, right?   3.Three Indian designer labels you love and why. As cliché as it sounds, I have always been an admirer of Sabyasachi’s work. From picking most of his pieces for my wedding trousseau to being a Sabyasachi bride, everything from his velvets, sequins and intricate embroideries have my heart. Other than him, I love the modern look and feel of pieces by Hemant and Nandita. Last and definitely not the least, the sustainable and gorgeous ready to wear silhouettes by Amit Aggarwal have some pieces that are an amalgamation of glamorous and chic!
