While everybody who’s somebody in this grand fashionscape has been busy raving about the Couture Week, my discerning eye was deconstructing looks belonging to a particular somebody from well within a much more local radius. I’m talking about Sharmin Segal – who’s slowly, but steadily on her way to becoming a household name, given that her first ever Bollywood movie, Malaal, has just released.
Sharmin is a breath of fresh air. And I’m saying it in a way that transcends her realistic, and honestly, quite attainable beauty. (In fact, her Cara Delevingne-esque eyebrows even make me believe I did nothing wrong by procrastinating my threading appointment by a couple of weeks – who’s counting, anyway, right?) I’m talking about her unusual fashion choices – especially in regard to all the contents of her promotional wardrobe.
She may be barely a movie old, but one look at her ‘Gram and I realize that she’s already a hit with the designers. She’s worn Sabyasachi, shown up to important events wearing Lajjoo C, struck one too many poses in Label : Anushree, and dressed in Anita Dongre so often that you wouldn’t be wrong to think of her as Sharmin’s sartorial rainmaker.
But in the current times where everyone is trying to make a statement, announce their arrival on the scene or simply establish a strong footing in the society via clothes, Sharmin reminds us that sometimes all our outfits really need to do is simply make us look beautiful without supplanting any comfort. Two hours of stalking her on social media, and I already want to switch up my working-girl-shoulder-pad-fitted dresses with fuss-free kurtas, swap those trousers with airy palazzos and enjoy dressing up without putting too much thought into it.
Take a look at everything we’d steal from Sharmin’s wardrobe
