Welcome to our segment Quarantine Throwbacks, where we dish the deets on our favourite celebrity looks throughout the years - because, let's face it, even the mainstays on our best-dressed list are at home in their most comfy pair of pyjamas!
New day, new #quarantinethrowback. Today, we are zeroing in on a particularly noteworthy look of Kareena Kapoor Khan from 2011, when the actor wore a white Manish Malhotra saree with silver sequin embellishments to the Filmfare Awards.
To refresh your memory a little, this was the actor post her Tashan-fuelled thin-figure days when she had gone public about her relationship with her then-beau-now husband, Saif Ali Khan. Kareena was still establishing her sartorial standpoint and was seen experimenting with her looks quite often - which explains the extremely structured blowout (see the bouffant in her hair?). The beginning of the 2010s was also dominated by the more-is-more trend which further justifies the actor's choice of this particular saree.
We still like how she's managed to offset the bling in her saree with just a pair of crystal danglers and a silver clutch. It may seem difficult to fathom right now, but this look of Kareena was pretty much a coming together of all the trends which were in vogue back then.
Have we seen plenty of embellished ethnic wear as a part of her closet? Yes. Considering it's Bebo, her enviable oomph made the plethora of sequins work, but we're glad she's moved on to owning more subtle outfits.
Fast-forward to 2018 and you'll find Kareena wearing a similar saree, except this time, it's what we're used to seeing from the actor. The simple satin white saree with the embellished blouse, paired with nothing but emerald danglers. One thing which has not changed, though, is her penchant for kohl-laden eyes, which, if you ask us, works completely in her favour.
Are you as glad as we are that the return of sequins on sarees now is much subtle than it was before? Let us know in the comments below.
