Prints gone wild – Animal Prints and Motifs

There are trends that have their 5 minutes of fame, which fade away eventually and then there are iconic trends that transcend fashion itself.  Trends come and go (and come and go) but some of them are just to close to our hearts to be discarded. Be it our need to channel our inner animalistic instincts or to feel closer to the nature - whatever your cause maybe, animal prints is a trend that finds it's way back into the fashion terrain and has now become a wardrobe staple. You either own it, borrow it or buy it, but you must have it.

Indian culture has seen it's fair share of  animal motifs intricately woven into our traditional garbs since time immemorial. But animal prints are a tricky business. One can look extremely classy or total trashy if not done right. Let us explore some snazzy ways to rock this trend.

Now when we say animal prints, we are not just limiting it to leopard or cheetah or zebra prints. We are talking animal motifs printed or embroidered onto the fabric and so on. Anita Dongre being the undefeated queen of animal prints and motifs has launched collection after collection featuring beautiful animal motifs. Her Pichwai collection and the Anita Dongre Grassroot have paid homage to this trend with unmatchable gusto every single time.

Joining the bandwagon have been ace designers like Sabyasachi, Anavila, Sailesh Singhania and so on. The humble sari is probably the best canvas one can have to project their creative genius. Look how pretty these saris are with their animal motif designs.

The designer duo - Shivan & Narresh - have always been wild with their prints and designs. Manish Malhotra dedicated an entire collection to the mythical creature Pegasus in his Arabic inspired collection, Zween. Incorporating animal motifs on lehengas and skirts has been practiced in India for a very long time now.  3D and kalidar embroidery, all work well with this versatile trend that result in breath taking masterpieces.

Sabyasachi Jewelry with its iconic Bengal tiger motif has become the latest craze for all fashion lovers. But it doesn't stop here. We have faux snake skin boots and bird and deer motif earrings. Name it and you have something for everyone. So take your pick and channel your spirit animal with these chic baubles.
