Then and Now - a segment all about a coveted sartorial transformation of our favourite celebrities over the years, where we yearn for the highlight of the look and shelve, well, the ones which almost made the cut.
Quarantine gurus who have mastered the art of keeping their sanity intact have dished a few tips on how to come out looking and feeling better than ever.... light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel situation, you see. It is all about evolving as a person. So, we thought, why not take that and apply it to the styles of our favourite celebrities whose sartorial narrative has changed far ans wide over the years! Which brings us to our first segment of Then and Now, where we are discussing Alia Bhatt's style evolution. 2013 v/s 2020, both times when the actor was sporting Manish Malhotra.
Back in 2012 when Alia Bhatt made her SOTY debut as the fashionista Shanaya, her real-life outfits didn't stray too far from her reel-life ones. It was all about OTT, much like the movie itself. Exhibit A, this lehenga which the actor's 19-year-old self wore to her first Filmfare Awards. Imbued with a kind of confidence you can only find in a teenager, Alia made this black tiered lehenga with a nostalgia-stirring back-bowtie blouse, and that fucshia dupatta, work for her.
Are we fans of the outfit? Perhaps, not. But we do give her some credit for pulling it off with minimal makeup and barely there accessories. Although we'd have preferred sleek hair to this beachy blowout, we're not complaining.
Come 2020, and Alia Bhatt is no longer a deer-in-headlights. She'sa bona fide actor and a resident on most best-dressed list. We love the pink and sage-green lehenga which she wore to Armaan Jain's reception. We loved how she wore the look with nothing more than a mangtikka. The actor shunned OTT for less-is-more aesthetics and it clearly has become her signature look.
Let's just say, we're glad that both her sartorial and career trajectory are trailing a high.
