Met Gala has to be one of the most looked-up to events in the global fashion industry where celebrities from across the globe come under one roof to put their best foot forward pertaining to the theme of the year. With Met Gala theme being ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion' or 'Gilded Glamour’ the celebrities ensured to bring in all the glam that they could with their styles. Along with other international celebrities like Blake Lively, Billie Eilish, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Sarah Jessica Parker, the Indian industrialist Natasha Poonawalla made heads turn like no other. Marking a debut for the Indian culture's epitome attire at the Met Gala, she was seen wearing a customized couture Sabyasachi saree paired with a gold Schiaparelli bustier.
Sabyasachi and Natasha Poonawalla certainly left a lasting impression at the Met Gala this year with the intricately detailed look that fit the theme in the most aesthetic way possible. Natasha took to her social media to talk about her look and it certainly left the social media pleasantly surprised. She wrote, " The #MetGala brought us a prescient theme, #GildedGlamour, which somehow resonates more strongly today than ever before. On the one hand, we see astronomical progress — to the degree that we’ve conquered space — and on the other hand we’re quick to police women or the vulnerable among us, their bodies, their choices, and their opportunities. It’s a bit like the golden cage. When thinking about what I’d wear to the #MetGala, these polarities became pronounced and the red carpet became my platform of expression. Huge shout-out to everyone who helped bring this to life…
Sabyasachi, on the other hand, made sure to shed light on the process of bringing this iconic look to life. He added his quote referring to what stature saree holds in his life and said, “For me the sari is a truly unique and versatile garment that owns its identity even as it transcends boundaries and geographies. Back when I was a young fashion student, I often wondered when I would see the sari at big global fashion events like the Met Gala.” - Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
He further wrote, "For the Met Gala, themed ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’, Natasha Poonawalla’s vision was to interpret the dress code ‘gilded glamour’ with an Indian gaze that revels in its multi-culturalism and authenticity. She wears a Schiaparelli hand-forged metal bustier paired with a custom Sabyasachi couture sari and trail. Sabyasachi contributed to Natasha’s vision by celebrating Indian craftsmanship with a gold handcrafted printed tulle sari and trail embroidered with silk floss thread and embellished with bevel beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, sequins and appliquéd printed velvet. The jewellery is a curation of custom pieces from Sabyasachi Fine Jewellery and limited edition collectibles from Sabyasachi’s Curiosity Art & Antiquity Project—crafted using traditional techniques with precious and semi-precious stones."
Take a look at the pictures posted by both Sabyasachi and Natasha which are sure to leave you speechless and in awe of their ideas and style quotient.
