8 Years Later, These Saif-Kareena Wedding Looks Are Still Our Fave

Kareena Kapoor Khan's wedding looks

The netizens, including us, have been swooning over mom-to-be Kareena Kapoor Khan's pregnancy style for quite some time now. Each passing day, we see an array of outfits that make her a trendsetter in this domain. Clad in leading and upcoming designers, the diva doesn't leave any stone unturned to make her work commitments a stylish affair. She has always had the regal aura about her, which makes her title of 'begum', more suited for her persona. The title, so powerful, has us have a mini flashback to her 2012 wedding look, where she donned Sharmilaji's heirloom sharara. The power couple's regal wedding picture had us revisiting all their stunning looks, curated by the Kareena's favourite, Manish Malhotra, of course.

Kareena and Saif's hush-hush wedding undoubtedly reflected a lockdown affair - intimate but grand. Brides who are curating a similar vibe for their own splendid 6-days can definitely take notes from the star. Here's how.

Mehendi

Kareena Kapoor Khan Mehendi

Kareena had a super-personal mehendi ceremony (the lack of paparazzi pictures are proof). Since OTT and maximalism reigned supreme during the early 2010s, the pink sequin saree with a bralette blouse doesn't come as a shocker. The fact that they're still trending in disguise as a 'cocktail saree' is proof that you can still wear them for festivities. We love how Kareena stuck to her Bebo-vibe and added even more traffic-stopping diamond necklace set.

Sangeet

in Manish Malhotra

We would have liked more pictures of the fun-filled sangeet bash to get a glimpse of how the royals party, AND the outfit. But we get the gist of the outfit, which is all about a pop of colour. Kareena's shimmery gold lehenga came with a dash of orange which was by Manish Malhotra. Gold lehengas are big this season, so give it a shot of lively hue with either a statement dupatta (and experiment with its drape) or chunky jewellery. We love how she kept her accessories to a minimal with a kundan choker set and maangtikka.

Nikaah Ceremony

in an heirloom sharara renovated by Ritu Kumar

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's royal wedding was the much-talked-about event of the year. The bride wore her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore's nikaah sharara, which was refurbished by the veteran designer, Ritu Kumar. Brides, if you want to carry forward your family legacy, here's how you can go about it. Wear an heirloom saree or lehenga and give it a modern touch with drapes or renovating it with patchwork. Since Kareena's elegant suit was dipped in zardozi and the bottoms with a contrasting mint border, take that as an inspiration to modify your outfit, should you want to add a little bit of you in the number.

Saif looked extremely dapper in a beige sherwani and white churidar. He styled his minimal-yet-impactful outfit (which balanced Kareena's detailed number) with a gold turban and black footwear. This is how they always look good together, 1) great looks and 2) complementing outfits. Take notes.

Nikaah ceremony

Kareena's wedding jewellery was all about making a statement. A choker necklace with chandbaali pendant was all she wore around her neck and complementing it was highlight-making maangtikka and passa. In case if you're going for a heavily-detailed outfit, go for accoutrements that balance the look. Heavy jewellery is somewhat essential during the phera ceremony, but layering them appropriately is what you have to pay attention to. Also, we're taking a moment here to appreciate her stunning makeup. Her eyes were well-defined with a dusted rose lip hue, which elevated her bridal glow. Go for a minimal blush and an understated lip colour, just like her.

Official wedding

For her official wedding, Kareena dressed down to a kurta set, reportedly by Manish Malhotra. The sequined olive green set came with the most unexpected (according to the current style) contrasting red dupatta. Sure, the colour aesthetics may have toned down a bit, but we still are crushing over how a simple style can be wedding-worthy. Classic chandbaalis made their appearance (failsafe pieces for a reason) along with orange bangles. Yet again, Saif balanced her outfit with a minimal charcoal grey kurta and salwar. Don't they make a fashionable duo?

Post-wedding party

The actress's post-wedding change of outfit was this deep-set maroon lehenga by Manish Malhotra. She kept true to her more-is-more aesthetic and styled the zardozi-inundated number with an emerald green choker set. Also, how much is too much for Kareena? She eschewed the monotone red with the jewellery, which is still trending in the wedding front. Brides, if you too want to offset your outfit hue, go for emerald green, which is a big rage this wedding season.

Reception

Reception look

Closing in on her magnificent wedding looks, she wore a blush pink gharara set by Manish Malhotra for her reception that was vintage everything. The powder-rani pink outfit was doused in zardozi and tilla work, along with ornate embellishments. While the bride of today may prefer a lightweight number with little-to-no detail, we still prefer the dual-tone play. Multicolours are also chic, which makes her kaleidoscopic detailed bottoms very in style.

It's evident that Kareena is a fan of choker sets as much as we are. She teamed the pink ensemble with a Rajputana-style choker and traditional shoulder-dusters with a kaan-chain and gold kadaas, a vibe that we'd still go for today. She went for a chic low chignon, barely-there makeup (she doesn't need it anyway) and rose-pink lip shade. A great way to close her glorious wedding looks, isn't it?
