ICYMI – This Anita Dongre Tunic on ‘Never Have I Ever’

If you've not heard of Mindy Kaling's brand new show Never Have I Ever on Netflix, you're probably living under a rock, which is, perhaps, the worst way to spend this already-wretched lockdown. The coming-of-age story of Devi - an American teenager of Indian origin - and how she deals with her overtly desi family is entertaining and surprisingly relevant (it goes on to show how Indian parents are the same everywhere, regardless of their geographic locations). It is no wonder it is so highly recommended!

And while the plot was great enough to keep us hooked (season 1 is just 8-parts, don't blame us for binge-watching), the occasional appearaces of designer Indian clothes provided enough impetus to keep us going. Although sarees and dresses were not in short supply, what caught our attention was the yellow tunic from Anita Dongre that Kamala - Devi's cousin played by Richa Moorjani - wore in the final episode.

We loved the simplicity with which she was styled. There was no unnecessary accessorizing except a simple turban headband and hair in a simple braid. There were also a pair of cigarette pants underneath - which, if your observation isn't as amazing as mine - you've probably missed.

The yellow floral embroidered kurta did most of the talking, and that's what made it one of the most talked-about looks of the show.

It is simple, yet statement-making, ethnic, yet contemporary.

Should you ever find yourself yielding for a dreaded family get-together or long-hour pujas (or in this plot's case, meeting a guy for an arranged marriage), you can cheer yourself up by dressing up in this super-chic outfit. If you don't know where to start, here are a bunch of our favourites from Anita Dongre that we are crushing on after looking at Kamala.
