20 Looks that slayed the Critics’ Choice Awards and 20 that did not

The Award season is upon us and the fashion police is on the prowl .  The Critics' Choice Awards 2019 took place in the lavish Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport, California. No Red Carpet this time but the stars walked The Blue Carpet before the ceremony. From Lady Gaga to Charlize Theron to Chrissy Teigen, lets take a look at the best looks and not-so-there-yet looks from the evening.

1#  Claire Foy

Winner of  the lesser known accolade #SeeHer, Claire Foy proves that you can be comfortable and look smashing! We absolutely love the laid-back style in Monochrome pants and top!

#2  America Ferrara

The Ugly Betty Star wow-ed the onlookers in her power ensemble. The all-black jumpsuit and cropped jacket ae giving us major goals.

3#  Elizabeth Olsen

The Scarlet Witch from the Marvel Comics Universe chose this short velvet knocker of an outfit for the Blue Carpet. She paired it with black Louboutin shoes and a matching clutch with a red trim. There's nothing to like about this look!

4#  Rachel Bloom

She was a winner even before the ceremony began in this stunning creme and silver dress with a plunging neckline. The Crazy ex-girlfriend star kept her make-up and accessories to a minimum and it looks very refreshing!

5#  Allison Janney

This White ensemble by Alberta Ferretti looked amazing on the Best TV Actress Nominee. We love the diamond embellishments on the neck and the matching jewelry.

6# Rachel Brosnahan

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel looked chic in this Carolina Herrera white pant-suit and pulled back hair. The Jimmy Choos are to die for!!

7#  Mandy Moore

The ex-teenage pop-star has grown up into beautiful woman! The Michael Kors Collection dress was anything but boring. The modern cuts to the midriff and structured silhouette complimented by her sleek hair and makeup made for a vision in white!

8#  Sandra Oh

The talented actress who won the Best Actress Award in Drama series looked stunning in a two-tone Atelier Prabal Gurung dress. We are not sure about the unruly bangs but the outfit managed to steal the show!

9#  Chrissy Teigen

If only we could look as stunning as the supermodel after a night of excessive partying for their husband's birthday! Chrissy looked like a goddess in this glamorous strapless Maison Yeya high slit gown. We are totally digging the Ox Blood lips and diamond hoops.

10#  Nicole Kidman

The flawless Nicole Kidman stunned everyone at the Blue Carpet in a lop-sided Armani Prive dress, something only she could get away with. The look was finished with loose wavy hair and minimal makeup.

11#  Awkwafina

The actress from Crazy Rich Asians fame looked dazzling in this Elisabetta Franchi copper sequin gown. The plunge neckline and no-accessory look is all the glam we need!

12#  Issa Rae

The actress/writer looks ravishing in this daring thigh-high slit by Aliétte by Jason Rembert gown. We heart the embellished bustier and slick hair.

13#  Amandla Stenberg

The Hate You Give star looked radiant in this Khaite Pre-Fall 2019 dress. She gave off some serious Vintage meets Modern vibes and we love the simple finesse.

14#  Laura Harrier

White seemed to be the color for the evening. Laura Harrier opted for this Louis Vuitton plunge neck dress and Bvlgari Jewelry. The loose waves and nude make up served as the icing on top.

15#  Laura Dern

This Shimmery number by Saint Laurent and a strategic cut-out detail was a risky piece but Laura pulled it off quite effortlessly.

16#  Angela Bassett

The Black Panther Actress chose a white Jenny Packham dress with bedazzling silver sequin embellishments and sheer net on the sleeve and neck. Her curly raven tresses made the actress look younger than ever!

17#  Constance Wu

The Crazy Rich Asians star looked angelic in this whimsical Rodarte gown. Looks like bangs are making a come back this year and we are so lovin' it!

18#  Kiki Layne

The sparkly Atelier Versace high slit dress. the dewy makeup and the Casadei 'Blade' heels - all of these just amalgamate into a vision which was nothing short of perfection. The red carpet newbie is already showing impeccable style and panache. Kudos to her!

19#  Patricia Clarkson

We are in such awe of this look that words won't suffice how glamours the winner of the Best Supporting Actress in Limited Series looks in this Georges Chakra gown. Totally loving the broad shoulder look and the embellished sleeves!

20#  Charlize Theron

Queen Charlize slaying the Blue Carpet like she always does. This shimmery ombre number by Givenchy Haute Couture clubbed with the sharp bob is giving us major goals! There is absolutely nothing we don't heart about this look.

Wow! That was a lot of glitz and glam but now lets take a look at the stars who didn't quite hit the mark. The dirty part of being a Fashion Critic.

#1  Holly Taylor

This pink number is so blah that we can't even. Better luck next time Holly!

2#  Judith Ligh

The oversized Polka dots look rather casual and not to mention clownish for a Blue Carpet. The Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2019 separates didn't make the cut this time.

3#  Kristen Bell

Kristen has awed us time and over again with her stunning looks at Red carpet events but she missed the mark this time on in this bland Cushnie dress.

4#  Maggie Gyllenhaal

This silver Prada gown might not be our first choice but we do like the petal-like sleeves. But overall the look did not manage to impress unlike her previous choices.

5#  Korby Howell-Baptiste

We are not sure what exactly is wrong with the look. Whether it is the unshapely and unflattering garb or the pringle-box clutch. All in all the look is just not "Red-carpet" enough for us.

6#  Jameela Jamil

The Oscar De la Renta spotted strapless gown is giving some major quinceanera vibes and we are not digging it. Though the bangs do look quite glamorous.

7#  Amy Adams

This Zac Posen outfit could have been a stunner if it wasn't for the mutton leg sleeves. We like how she matched her earrings to her eyes but the dress was a total downer.

8#  Olivia Munn

By now it has been established that polka dots do not make for an acceptable Red-carpet look irrespective of the size or density. The neckline was a few inches lower than we would have liked and the Andrew Gn gown was a major let down for this stunning actress.

9#  Nina Dobrev

Nina is known for some stunning moments on the red carpet but this red Valentino gown with a Jimmy Choo ‘Clemmie’ clutch might not be one that will be remembered fondly. The hair and makeup do nothing to salvage the look.

10#  Gemma Chan

Th stunning actress could have done much better than this custom floral print Jason Wu gown. The print is too loud and busy for out taste.

11#  Judy Greer

The print on this Reem Arca gown would be more appropriate had it been a part of upholstery. Known for her quirky sense of style, Greer certainly had a dull moment in this tiresome ensemble.

12#  Janet Mock

The shimmery custom Roland Mouret gown was probably not one of her best looks but we love the updo and complimenting eye shadow which really didn't help much to salve the look.

13#  Bo Burnham and Elsie Fisher

It's cute that they decided to fail together. The Half N Half Suit Bo donned and the tiny bow embellished suit (look closer) Elsie has on are just appalling.

14# Timothee Chalamet

This Alexander McQueen printed suit is a bit too much for a classy event and we are not sure if it really made the cut.

15#  Lady Gaga

The Best Actress Award winner donned this gown which was somewhere between a towel dress and a bed sheet draped around her. The Calvin Klein by Appointment gown was quite a disappointment compared to her previous polished looks. We do love the 40's inspired hairstyle though.

16#  Billy Porter

After the pink lined cape at the Golden Globe, we did not expect this from Porter. The awful bow and the ill-fitted suit is just not Billy Porter.

17#  Glenn Close

We love the Actress but this blazer and pleated skirt combo in a shiny Silver grey fabric is so not her!

18#  Cody Fern

The vintage Yohji Yamamoto Jumpsuit is an interesting choice but we certainly DO NOT like the ghastly shoes that resemble an animal's hoof.

19#  Millicent Simmonds The Marchesa Notte Pre-Fall 2019 gown was lovely provided it was sans the 3D neck. The only silver lining was that she paired it with Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle Follies’ pumps. But she is still very young and will have a number of chances to shine in style

20#  Lucy Boynton

The Bohemian Rhapsody actress had it completely wrong, pairing the ruffle overload with a blush pink satin bow (which was plain unnecessary). Not to mention the yellow bow embroider on this Gucci gown just added to the busy look and not in a good way.

So that's a wrap. Fashion Police signing out!
