Bollywood-Inspired Menswear for the Modern Indian Man

If #MeToo happened in the sartorial world, it would probably be an event that's collectively staged by mundane man wardrobes. After all, all the best designs are often spotted in womenswear whereas men are almost always left with the lackluster styles which have been inundating closets since times immemorial. But of late, we can see a paradigm shift in these clothing stereotypes (didn't you see Rahul Mishra's 2019 Couture Collection where he used mannishly tailored jackets for women and kalidar kurtas for men?)

And welcoming this much-needed change are our leading Bollywood men, who've kept aside their go-to denim and white shirt uniform and are experimenting with off-kilter designer clothes. Ever so suave and charming, these lads are taking dressing up to a whole new level.

Take a look!

Ayushmann Khurrana

Ever so stylish and dapper, Ayushmann Khurrana elegantly embodies the green wrap-around kurta by Antar-Agni. The camouflage print gives lends a smart, army vibe while keeping the overall feel casual. We suggest wearing this kurta to a cocktail party or a semi-formal event with slim fit black trousers and oxfords.

Arjun Kapoor

There's no doubt that Arjun Kapoor looks handsome in every outfit. But, this bespoke blue ensemble by SS Homme fits any stature perfectly, making any man look dashing. Grab lots of attention by wearing it at a wedding or any formal office party with suede brogues and grey tie.

Ranveer Singh

There’s no outfit curated in this world which Ranveer Singh cannot carry. Whether we're talking skirt sets or the infamous bubble-print pyjama suit which he wore with Sylvester fluff slip-ons, he owns them like his second skin. Just as any other outfit, this green hand dyed suit with joggers accentuates his quirkiness. If you share his level of oomph and confidence, pair it with black espadrilles or white sneakers along with smart watches as accessory and aviator glasses.

Saqib Saleem

Contemporary blazers have become a huge trend in menswear of late. Patchwork, colour blocking and asymmetrical silhouettes have been witnessed at multiple fashion shows. This particular Sayantar Sarkar’s blazer worn by Saqib Saleem is a modern take on the classic suit. Accentuate the modern look with classy semi-formal black sneakers and a silver-blue bow tie.

Shahid Kapoor

Antar Agni is known for their ultra-modern silhouettes. Sticking to their signature colour palette which is usually earthy tones like browns, forest greens and navy blues, they have managed make this their USP. Shahid Kapoor wears this mud brown jacket over a black kurta set to break the monotone like a pro. To get the look right, pair it with brown loafers for that perfect, sharp accentuated body shape.

Ranbir Kapoor

While the other designers are chasing modernist construction in their garments, Kunal Rawal adhered to the capsule classics. This grey Nehru jacket set on Ranbir Kapoor is his subtle take on class and royalty. Nothing about this outfit screams OTT and yet, is every bit perfect making an appearance at wedding ceremonies. Go with subtle brown kolhapuri chappals and you’re dashing as ever.

Ayushmann Khurrana

Speaking of quirky modernism, this sporty jacket by Dhruv Vaish accentuates Ayushmann's frame like none other. Driving the gaze towards the shoulders, it can be best paired with an off-white mandarin collared shirt. Pair with informal white sneakers, your Rolex and wayfarers for the ultimate athleisure look.

Vicky Kaushal

Stripes is 2019's ultimate normcore. This black and white striped kurta by Qbik comes with an asymmetrical hemline, wich adds personality to the mundane kurta. Coupled with Vicky Kaushal's charm, there's little doubt as to why this outfit looks so effortless on him. If you're in the mood for experimenting for a bit, here's a suggestion - wear it to  a brunch date with ripped denims, and white desert boots.

Sumeet Vyas

Sumeet Vyas may be famous for playing the naive better half in  Permanent Roommates, but he isn’t one when it comes to power dressing. This navy blue off-kilter sherwani by Qbik is super contemporary and perfect for those who want to modernize even their traditional Indian looks. This dapper overlap placket achlan goes well with both white and black churidar. Attend a wedding by pairing a tiered kundan necklace or a brooch and cuff links. Add on sleek black derby shoes to complete the look.
