The biggest fashion event of the year took place the past week and it can now be officially declared as ‘breathtakingly glamorous’. As anticipated the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017 event was, it stayed true to its reputation of bringing together the best of designer collections and the who’s who of the fashion world all under one roof. From the top notch designers unfolding their grandeur with their awe inspiring collections to the upcoming Gen Next team surprising us with unique elements, Lakme Fashion Week 2017 saw the best of all.
DAY 1
Lakme fashion Week kick started with a tribute to the multi-faceted fashion scenario of the country. From organic Indian fabrics and prints to futuristic silhouettes and cuts, the shows were an amalgamation of the precious past and the dream worthy future.
URVASHI KAUR

Urvashi Kaur unveils the heart and soul of a traveler in her latest collection - Vasa. Inspired by the native culture and spirit of far off lands, Urvashi Kaur has brought together indigenous fabrics, earthy tones, relaxed silhouettes and traditional prints in a collection that lies close to her heart. Keeping her signature detailing of pleats, hand tucking and rouches constant, you can expect relaxed fit kurtas, sheer tops and printed trousers to begin with. The designer’s efforts of making simple and sustainable look chic has surely paid off. Actor Imran khan’s wife Avantika Malik walked as the show stopper for her show.
ANTAR AGNI
Ujjawal Dubey’s summer/ resort collection at Lakme Fashion Week was reminiscent of laid back and relaxed summer days with updated wardrobe staples. Diverging from his usual palette of dark tones, Antar Agni was all about whites, beiges and sprinkles of navy blues this time. He brought his signature style of asymmetrics and unstructured silhouettes which inclined towards gender fluidity

KUNAL RAWAL
Kunal Rawal’s collection of modern Indian outfits was as stunning as it always has been. From bandhgalas and jackets to kurtas and pants, Kunal Rawal's collection of mens wear was an elegant affair. He sticks to the idea of luxurious looks which reflects in his choice of colors and textures. Varun Dhawan walked as the showstopper for his designer friend along with an impromptu Arjun Kapoor.
AM.IT BY AMIT AGGARWAL
Amit Aggarwal has always pulled off the unconventional effortlessly. With his latest show at Lakme Fashion Week 2017, Amit Aggarwal showcased his collection titled ‘seamless’ - an ode to the traditional patola saris. Inspired by the idea of reworking on old traditional fabrics with modern techniques to present something completely new, the outfits were a perfect blend of modern layers, pleats and metallic elements with traditional patterns. The palette ranged from olive and khadi to mustard and wine, true to the patola sari culture.
DEV R NIL
Introducing his collection at Lakme fashion Week after a period of 9 years, Dev R Nil was one of the most anticipated shows on the first day. Named ‘The Valley of Missing Flowers’ Dev R Nil explored the contrasting concept of character and beauty in the war torn lands of Kashmir in his collection. Grabbing the viewer’s attention with an intense message, the collection showcased 3D floral prints and ikat stripes. A wide range of silhouettes including saris, kurtas, trousers, shararas, kimonos and more were part of the collection that carefully traced the combination of structured prints on fabrics like silk and organza.
DAY 2:
The second day set the tone of the event with some stunning collection in mens and womens fashion, taking the runway by storm. Be it the beachy colors or the comfortable textiles, the designers brought on board collections that were ruled by forms and shades.
PADMAJA
Padmaja celebrated India’s handloom culture on the runway at the Lakme Fashion Week this year. The show titled ‘Light of the Sun’ displayed A-line dresses, ponchos and dhoti pants among other statement pieces. In light and breathable fabric, Padmaja made simple look extremely stylish and chic in summery shades of yellows, whites and blues.
ABRAHAM & THAKORE
The runway was ruled by sustainable fashion with designer duo Abraham & Thakore. The idea of using garment production waste to make something chic and stylish came to life on the ramp. A mix of quirky and unconventional styles with reinvented fabrics worked exceptionally well, introducing deconstructed silhouettes and layers in mens fashion.
RAJESH PRATAP SINGH
Rajesh Pratap Singh took forward the #sustainableman trend with his collection of layered garments made of recycled plastics and old fabrics. Khadi and denims played a key role in the collection while patchwork, pinstripes and prints made a classic statement. Unlike his other collection, this one saw a lot of easy modern day outfits with the right hipster touch.
