Think easy breezy, effortless and elegant all at the same time with a wild bohemian spirit. That’s the magic that Nikasha Tawadey weaves artistically in each of her collections for the woman who stays grounded yet embodies a wilderness of her own. The designer has carved a niche for herself in the Indian fashion fraternity and has been a fashion week regular since 2006. We sat with the designer for a peek into what inspires her and what she believes is truly stylish. How did your fashion journey begin? My fashion journey was completely unplanned. I was wearing something at a friend’s wedding who had asked me to design something similar for her, as part of her new store called Purple Porcupine. The rest is history. 2. What is life like from a designer’s point of view? There is a lot of beauty but also a lot of pain. We strive to translate our inspiration into stories that we can communicate but at the end only we know whether it was well told or untold! 3. Three elements that define your label’s aesthetics. Modern, contextual and creative. 4. Bohemian yet stylish are the aesthetics behind your label, where can one wear these outfits? I think you can wear them almost anywhere! 5. What is your main inspiration behind most of your collections? My country, my landscape, my childhood. 6. Who is your ideal muse who would represent your label best? Madhubala. 7. What is next in line for you? New frontiers and new challenges. 8. What is the biggest compliment you have ever received on your work? When Suzy Menkes told me of how uniquely I played with light and shadow and had a unique style that married the east and the west. 9. How would you describe your sense of style? Simple and functional with only black and whites. Rarely any color. 10. What are the trends that you think are going to make it big in 2017? There are no trends anymore, only style!
