To date, our inspiration for festive looks has always been social media. While the contemporary-ethnic wear trend has taken urban India by storm, I cannot help but go back to heritage Indian traditional textile forms. Having recently discovered the inexplicably understated tie-dye techniques, I find myself wanting to bring ancient dyeing techniques like bandhani, leheriya, and shibori to name a few. To fit the clothing needs of the current Instagram-generation, they, too, are modernized with western silhouettes to make them apt for our daily regime.
These techniques have also been part of runway shows since designers like The Pot Plant Clothing and Nupur Kanoi curated collections of bandhani tops for Lakme Fashion Week in 2018. Come 2019 and now, 2020, many more have started adding tie-dye clothes to their creative roster.
As I diligently keep a tab on designers (for my job, but mostly to know what to shop for next), I have stumbled upon stunning outfits by best of designers like Abhinav Mishra, Anita Dongre - Grassroot, Akansha Gajria, Arpita Mehta, and Punit Balana to name a few. These exquisite designs are a definite must-have for every Indian-at-heart woman's festive wardrobe.
